Happy Happy Birthday to my son, Kyle Wirtz

Happy Happy Birthday to my son, Kyle Wirtz

Your father used to sing to you: “If I knew you were coming I would have baked a cake”

So today in my Cake Decorating Class I made a white cake, filled it with Fig Preserve and decorated it for you!

Hope you are having a wonderful 31st Birthday! You are the best! I am so lucky to have three wonderful sons!

Once in a while nature surprises with an amazing moment. Looking out the window at the strong light, this Rainbow captured the horizon and make the world a beautiful place. This is when I feel very blessed to live where we can just look out the window and enjoy this.

Elegant Dress with panache

Elegant Dress with panache

When I saw this fabric, I thought a simple style with a little touch of color would be great fun. This may be the only one I’ve made that should be dry cleaned due to the complexity of the flower. It was fun to make my own bias binding with a little Clover Bias Binder maker. I ordered them in two other sizes, as it is so easy and looks so much better to self bias the neck and armholes. I also cover the inside waistline seam with custom bias tape, so it does not ravel or scratch her little tummy. With each dress, it is easier and faster and looks better.

I am really enjoying this new venture and am excited as my two other granddaughters are coming back to the US from New Zealand and I can sew for them too.

This is my favorite dress so far and it was totally luck that the cabbage flower ended up in the center of the top.

Let me know what you think?

The view from my window.

Diana's Window 1The view from my window.

The view from the window of my office has always been ugly, as it looks at the roof of my next door neighbor. I am very lucky to live on the waterfront, but where I live the houses are very close together.

If you have been following my posts, you know one of icons of travel is the Airstream. I started collecting miniature Airstreams as I do not yet have an Airstream of my own. As the collection grew I had nowhere to display them. One day I looked at my office window and decided glass shelves would display them in an artistically interesting way.

Here that are!!

Every little girl dreams of being a Princess

Every little girl dreams of being a Princess

My granddaughter Claire visited me for two weeks and I rediscovered that all little girls love pretending to be a Princess. Everywhere we went she looked at all the Disney Princesses. Walt Disney brought the Princess Theory to life with all his happy films about Princesses.

I decided Claire would love a Princess dress, without being over the top with my son, who is not so sure about the Princess Concept. Yesterday I designed and made Claire’s personal princess dress. If you look closely you will see castles and princesses and ponies in the design.

Polka Dots and Airstreams make me smile

Brown & Green DotsPolka Dots and Airstreams make me smile

When I shop for fabric when sewing, I realize I always go to the dots. It made me wonder why do we like certain things. I love polka dots and airstreams and plan to put them together soon in an apron for myself and will share on my Blog.

What in our upbringing forms our taste in colors, flowers, cars and style in general? We all enjoy different things in life.
