Sometimes My Life Seems Upside Down

Sometimes My Life Seems Upside Down

I wonder some days if we paint our mood or write our mood of the day. I have noticed in my abstract paintings you can tell if I am happier or not.

Working on coming up with quotes for my work, I do notice that drawings you are drawn to evoke feelings you have at the time.

My emotion shows up in the topics I pick or the colors I use. How about you?

Figure Drawing at Artist’s Edge

Figure Drawing at Artist's Edge

On Thursday nights in Poulsbo Derek Gundy has a live model come into the Artist’s Edge and we all have the opportunity to spend three hours drawing the model of the evening. Sara is a wonderful model and hold her pose perfectly. I am usually lucky enough to have one or two of my drawings be presentable enough to post.

I love the environment of other artists of all different levels of ability having a great time working on their skills.

There is is always room for more artists as generally only about 8 show up on any given night and there is room for at least 12. come join us!!

This was the original abstract that became a nude.

This was the original abstract that became a nude.

I think I may have found a style that I enjoy. I love doing abstracts, but adding the nude on top of the color was great fun. Please tell me what you think. The woman just seemed to emerge from the abstract and seemed to want to be seated.   I am thinking about doing more of these in the future.  Love doing abstracts and have fun drawing figures, so this might be a fun combination to do in the future. Abstract Nude

New Style

New Style

Today I woke up and had an idea. I have been working on this abstract and loved the colors, but thought it lacked something. Today I took an Oil Crayon and drew the nude on top of the abstract, then added skin tone to set it apart from the abstract. I feel it fit right in and it was so much fun to try something new.

What do you think??

Last pose of the Evening

Last pose of the Evening

Just this last week I started taking a figure drawing class after not doing much in charcoal for a while. The model struck this pose and I thought “how do I do this?”

I like the result. It is only 8 x 8 inches, so not big, but I had fun trying to bring some drama into the pose. Hope I can be posting more in the future.

Nap Time

Nap Time

Line work can make or break a drawing. We all need to draw more. I have heard and read more artists say your painting is only as good as your drawing. I try to draw something every day, so my line work hopefully improves over time.

Red Hair is Beautiful!

Red Hair is Beautiful!

At Almost Candid Gallery in Kingston, the owner decided that February would be a good month for a Nude show, so have done a couple of little 5 x 7 pastel drawings.
