Red Meets Black!

In addition to sketching and doing a relatively impressionistic type paint, I love doing big abstracts. This one did not take much time, but just made me happy painting. I usually put on some great music and just enjoy the energy. Stacey Kent is my newest artist of choice. I was introduced to her music when staying a friend’s house. With all the fires going on in Washington, Oregon and California the idea struck me that the all the fury of the fires leaves behind the sadness of the blackened trees and lost homes.

This is fairly large at 48″ wide x 24″ tall.

Elegant Dress with panache

Elegant Dress with panache

When I saw this fabric, I thought a simple style with a little touch of color would be great fun. This may be the only one I’ve made that should be dry cleaned due to the complexity of the flower. It was fun to make my own bias binding with a little Clover Bias Binder maker. I ordered them in two other sizes, as it is so easy and looks so much better to self bias the neck and armholes. I also cover the inside waistline seam with custom bias tape, so it does not ravel or scratch her little tummy. With each dress, it is easier and faster and looks better.

I am really enjoying this new venture and am excited as my two other granddaughters are coming back to the US from New Zealand and I can sew for them too.

This is my favorite dress so far and it was totally luck that the cabbage flower ended up in the center of the top.

Let me know what you think?

Bring your red umbrella and visit the Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island

I used to live right next door to the Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island. It is 175 acres of lush gardens. My three sons used to slip under the fence and go exploring. They once shared their secret place with me and we all climbed the bank by the water to go see their favorite meadow. It was magically beautiful and a memory I shall always cherish. This is not that meadow, but it is a beautiful one just as you enter the reserve.

In the Pink

This time of year it is such a joy to be out in the garden and enjoy the glory nature can bring us.

The poppies take over the garden and if they were not so spectacular I might not love orange quite that much! But they so complement the purple flowers in the garden.

If you cant get ahead or win, just enjoy. Maybe we could say this about a lot of things.
